Monday, 3 June

Today is World Bicycle Day.

At 11:00 a.m., there will be a hybrid briefing by Andrea De Domenico, Head of OCHA's Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He will brief reporters on the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

At 1 p.m., there will be a briefing by Ambassador Joonkook Hwang, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea and President of the Security Council for the month of June.

The Second Global Meeting of the Montevideo National Focal Points, for exchanging information and building capacities to collaborate with and guide the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in strengthening the Montevideo Environmental Law Programme, as well as for monitoring and evaluating its implementation, will take place from 3-5 June in Nairobi, Kenya.

Tuesday, 4 June

Today is the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.     

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths.
The Department of Peace Operations will release its annual report on Women, Peace and Security.

Titled “Navigating Challenges and Driving Change”, the report showcases strategies and progress made by UN Peacekeeping to ensure full, equal and meaningful participation of women in all stages of the peace and political processes, systematically integrate a gender perspective into its work and increase the number of women in peacekeeping at all levels and in key positions.

In Geneva, the UN Information Service will hold its bi-weekly briefing for journalists.

Wednesday, 5 June

Today is World Environment Day. This year focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” Over 1800 events are taking place around the world, including in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is serving as host for this 2024. This year’s World Environment Day campaign calls on governments and multilateral organizations to fulfill their commitments to restore the land on which we depend and raise awareness among civil society groups, businesses, and individuals about their role. The Secretary-General will have a message for the Day.

Also today, the Secretary-General will deliver a special address at the American Museum of Natural History where he will set out some hard-hitting truths about the state of the climate, the grotesque risk leaders are running, and what companies and countries need to do over the next eighteen months to salvage humanity’s chances of a livable future. 

It is also the International Day for the Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.

At 10 a.m., the ECOSOC Management Segment will be held in the ECOSOC Chamber at the UN Headquarters in New York.

At 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, there will be a High-level debate on “Crime prevention and sustainable development through sports.”

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.     

The guest will be World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director in Haiti, Jean-Martin Bauer. He will brief reporters virtually on the situation in Haiti.

At 1:15 p.m., there is an event entitled “SCORE against crime: Harnessing sport for crime prevention through partnerships” (co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Italy, Jamaica, Monaco and Qatar, together with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC)).

Thursday, 6 June

Today is Russia Language Day.

Today, there will be a memorial Service to honour UN personnel who lost their lives. The Secretary-General will deliver remarks.

At 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 11, there will be an event to commemorate the World Environment Day (on the occasion of World Environment Day (5 June)) (organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia).

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

Friday, 7 June     

Today is World Food Safety Day.

At 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 4, there will be a celebratory event entitled “Awaken New Depths” (on the occasion of World Oceans Day (8 June)) (organized by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, Office of Legal Affairs).
