Ambassador Don MacKay of New Zealand

elected Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee

On 13 April 2005 the Ad Hoc Committee on a Comprehensive and Integral International Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities held an organizational meeting to elect new Bureau members in accordance with its recommendation contained in the report on its fifth session (A/AC.265/2005/2).

Ambassador Don MacKay of New Zealand, Coordinator of the Ad Hoc Committee, was elected Chair of the Committee, succeeding Ambassador Luis Gallegos Chiriboga, who was appointed Ambassador of Ecuador to Australia earlier this year. The Committee also elected as its Vice-Chairs Mr. Jorge Ballestero from Costa Rica, Ms. Ivana Grollova of the Czech Republic and Mr. Mu’taz Hyassat of Jordan. Consultations are still ongoing within the African Group for the African Vice-Chair.
